Pune's monsoon punishes cars in a specific way: standing water at Hadapsar and Mundhwa, potholes on service roads, and days of high humidity. This checklist takes about 40 minutes at a workshop and prevents most rain-season breakdowns.
The eight checks that matter
Run through these before the first heavy week of rain:
- Wiper blades and washer fluid — streaking blades are a safety issue, not cosmetic
- Brake pads and discs — wet braking distance rises sharply on worn pads
- Tyre tread depth above 2mm and correct pressure for aquaplaning resistance
- Underbody wash and anti-rust coating after waterlogged drives
- Battery terminals cleaned and coated against humidity
- All lights, including fog lamps and reverse lamps
- Cabin air filter replaced to stop the damp smell and window fogging
- Door and boot rubber beading checked for water entry
If you drive through standing water
Never restart a car that stalled in water — that is how hydrolock damage happens, and it is not covered as a normal repair. Call for a tow, then get the oil, air filter and electricals inspected before the engine is cranked.
